Mental Health Training for Secondary School Teachers

What is it?

The government has launched a £200,000 fund to improve mental health support for children and young people.

Every secondary school in England is entitled to a place on the training programme, which will run until 2020. The programme will be delivered by the social enterprise Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).

Teachers will be equipped with practical advice to identify and respond to early signs of mental health issues in children. They will also be invited to become ‘first aid champions’, sharing their knowledge and experiences across schools and communities to raise awareness and break down stigma and discrimination.
